For specific activities, such as construction and real estate projects, clients and contractors in Belgium are obliged to check possible social and fiscal debts of their (sub-)contractors. If there is a debt, the client has to retain a given percentage from the invoice and deposit it to the relevant institutions, respectively RSZ and FOD Financiën.
